The next time I hear some whiny official of a teacher's union claim their demands are "for the children," I'm going to remember what's happened to us and all our friends in the special needs community. I've failed to mention a few other facts related to this case: (1) she's never been enrolled in school before, yet they want to enroll her directly into second grade with no aide or special services (we're requesting that she repeat 1st grade with an aide), or (2) enroll her in an autistically impaired classroom with no academics (hence their recommendation to have us homeschool her for part of the day). And that, folks, is where your property tax dollars are going (that is, if you live in Michigan).
